movie: the number 23

i've always been fascinated by the number 23, no, not the movie, the real number. i've watched the german film "23" a couple of years ago and ever since jokingly referred to the great conspiracy that hides behind our everyday lives.
i was horribly disappointed with dan brown's "angels and demons", simply because the german title suggested a good story around the illuminates. i couldn't get past the first sixty pages.
yesterday, i watched the number 23, another movie demonstrating that jim carrey is in fact a seriously good actor.
it revolves around a man named walter sparrow (we saw the pirates of the caribbeans iii-trailer before the movie and... ah, anyway) who finds a book in which a detective tells the story of his life and how it was influenced by the number 23. sparrow gets torn into the book and starts to develop his own serious paranoia because he finds a lot of similarities between the detective's life and his own.
the movie looks awsome. there scenes showing the detective story look amazing and quite at the beginning, there is a flashback-scene where i couldn't help but sit with my mouth agape. the script is solid and if you watch the backgrounds, you find a lot more 23s than the ones you get pointed to.
the only thing that seriously impaired my enjoyment was an all-too-morally-sour ending - but don't let that stop you from going to see this film. it's absolutely worth it, even if you're not a paranoiac like me ;o)
