a head full of sky

that wasn't nice. no, really, someone should've told me. why, of course, i love snow. i really do. i think i've stated before that winter is my most favorite time of the year although at the moment fall's a close second. but this...
what i like about winter is that you can look forward to it. you can see the trees gradually losing leaves, see every color being drained out of everything, even human faces and thoughts, to be hidden somewhere until the cold leaves and the flowers start to grow again.
i always sit waiting for the first snow to come as soon as most leaves and most birds are gone, when there has been the rain and the storm in my hair and my ears.
but it came today. unexpected. sort of. i thought it might come when i came home yesterday. it was raining a little and the rain had that very special consistency to it that made it feel... different. but when i got up in the morning and heard about jammed streets and weather-related trouble all around on the radio, i left my eyes closed and sniffed. it didn't smell like snow, not at all. that special quality that you get with snow-laden air was completely missing. and even when i opened my shutters and looked at the clean white world around, i couldn't believe it. it was too unreal to be true. centimeters of snow at the beginning (sort of) of november! where we can usually call ourselves lucky if there's a day of snow somewhere around december - and that's it. at least it always feels like this...
now, most of it is gone already. serves him right, i thought when i got home, trudging through all the little puddles of half-snow-half-water, couldn't he have waited until it was his turn? well, i hope he isn't offended and will return soon...
