rating two good movies in three days [jul 12 2004, 23:17]

shrek 2 on saturday. incredibly funny. even funnier than the first part. probably not as cute and cuddly and not as... well, cosy as the first one but definitely worth a second look. i'm not sure how many little jokes i missed because i was either too focused on the story and the action or distracted by the pure beauty of this movie. did you notice 'farbucks'? he, really good. a movie that can cram loads of quotations from other movies. really great. lots of thumbs up.

harry potter iii - ov today, just half an hour ago. it was an amazing movie and an average adaptation of the book. visually, the movie was just great. some of the best stuff i've seen so far. it's a lot darker and a lot more mature than the first two parts and although i felt that harry and ron were a little too old, it was a great overall experience. however, some changes that cuarón, the new director, made were rather... challenging. just some things that popped up in my head:
"where did that _huge_ bridge come from? that hasn't been there before, has it?"
"and what about this huge clock?"
"and what about hagrid's hut?"
"and the house of the dursleys?"
and so on and so on. hogwarts looks better than ever before - finally you get a chance to see the overall thing - but it's not the hogwarts i got used to during the first two parts.
michal gambon, the replacement for richard harris who passed away before the filming of the third part, blends in absolutely seamlessly. only the voice - yes, probably only perceptible in the original version - clearly shows that there is a new actor for dumbledore...
the conclusion makes me put just as much thumbs up as before for shrek. i can't say anything about the german version but the ov is just great.
