the big physicists
[apr 24 2004, 00:22]
i don't really know whether it was strange or horrible...
i just went to see the 'physicists' (yes, the exact same play that i am actinv in), done by 'professionals'.
i didn't really like their scenery, although it was very well done, quite interesting and really useful. still, i thought it looked... well, strange!
the strangeness continued with the actors. it was completely new to me that you needed so many people for this play! we have, like, six or seven people and they had about twenty! they had even given someone the role of a corpse. nothing more. just lying there, waiting for the policemen to carry you out...
the strangest thing about the play was that there was no break. they played right through (although the audience - mostly [obviously] german-classes from various schools clapped insanely at the short period between the two acts) and, because... no, i don't really know why, but they shortened the play. they cut out bits and pieces - important bits and pieces if you ask me - and rushed through everything.
well, almost everything... a scene in which moebius kills his nurse was stretched to last about a minute while both are struggling on the floor after she had ripped her clothes off... strange!
talking about moebius, i didn't really like the way the actor (or the director?) interpreted the role. he was - for my liking - far too cool, far too unconcerned, far too... well, far too little of what i think moebius is! there were a few neat ideas (he always made a little gesture when talking about salomo, wore a suit with the combination of the colors of newton's and einstein's suit etc.) but over all... i'm not impressed. not at all.
it was not the worst play i've ever seen but... sorry, guys, but it was close.
if i wasn't looking forward to staging it myself, you could've ruined the 'physicists' (and i, as a little, innocent german boy am always tempted to write 'physicians') for me.
