*sigh*, i could just continue to post the lyrics of some songs in here. some writers just seem to catch my mood and put it into words - better than i ever could.
it's not specific bands, specific artists that give me the feelig that i'm not the only insane guy on this godforsaken planet. even songs with lyrics that look incredibly stupid at first sight reveal their real meaning at some time. at least some do... [of course, there are enough exceptions...]
take 'my sundown' by jimmy eat world for example:
only those two lines are enough to cheer me up a bit. of course, it's also a matter of associations, of memories connected with the lyrics or the song but basically that's all i need. that's all i'm happy with.
another example. 'my lover's gone' by dido:
yes, that song evoques many painful memories in me but the first tone of the song, the first word of the lyrics is enough to put me into a completely sentimental mood.
you may think now that i'm completely and utterly insane. that you can influence me that easily. that even little songs or even only parts of songs are enough to move my mood from the absolute high to the absolute low. but, that's the way it is.
i've always been obsessed with music. not with artists, not with the pure facts [which group was on number one for three weeks in 1999] but with music itself. it does not really matter, which kind of music it is, as long as it appeals to me. that's why it's incredibly difficult for me to answer the question 'what kind of music do you listen to?'... it's a mixture. even the question 'what kind of music do you listen to when you are happy/sad/depressed?' seems impossible to answer for me as it always depends on whether i intend to stay in that mood. yes, sentimentality has some positive sides, too... otherwise i would have to delete lots of my mp3s and tear apart lots of my cds.
another thing i really don't like is all this fuss about mainstream or not mainstream. as i said, it's not important for me which kind of music i'm listening to as long as i like it. in fact, i don't care whether the song is a hundred years old or whether it's the current no 1. i don't care!. i know some people who desperately defend viva, mtv and all the other popular stuff and i also know those who would like to see all this forbidden and that have an attitude that sounds like 'if more than a hundred people listen to it, it's mainstream, it's bad!'... weird.
okay, i suppose i'll have to quit now. vanessa carlton - 'ordinary day' is coming up right now. exactly what i need. perhaps you'll understand.

song of the day:... not really necessary right now, don't you think?

i see it around me, i see it in everything

my lover's gone. his boots no longer by my door.
he left at dawn. and as i slept i felt him go.
returns no more. i will not watch the ocean.
my lover's gone. no earthly ships will ever bring him home again.
bring him home again.yes, that song evoques many painful memories in me but the first tone of the song, the first word of the lyrics is enough to put me into a completely sentimental mood.
