rating are you still there? [nov 17 2002, 22:49]

i'm just asking. is there still anyone out there? it's not that i doubt it. not really. but if i think about the e-mails i usually get i should think that there are not more than perhaps two or three people living on this planet. people that i don't even know!
it's not that i only get junk via e-mail. well, perhaps 80% is junk. or 90%. it may even be 95% but that's not the point. the point is that i'm wondering where those people get my e-mail addresses from. there are three mailboxes that all the other mails are redirected to. a very old one that is situated on one of my old provider's server. quite a stupid name - but i still get ads to that address. and i can't really explain why. or from where. the second mailbox is somehow a collection of different addresses and - filled with junk. the third and last is all the letmebreathe-stuff. there's no junk at all - perhaps it's too new...
now, here's my question: have i really been that stupid? did i really enter my real e-mail address into all these 'yes, go ahead and send me stuff'-fields? i don't really think so. and why are those stupid guys even including an (non-working) 'unsubscribe'-link in the letters? why all that hassle?
and my next question: why are other people that stupid? why don't they get the idea that i don't really need/want all the stuff they're trying to sell me? i don't want to 'spy on anyone's computer' and all those 'free sex-cams (only 99$/min.' are... well, you know. and it's not only that those people are stupid. they think that i am, too. see, see!
however, some people might say that i should consider using filtering-software. but i won't. i like it that way. it's a good feeling that you can check your e-mails at any time of the day with the definite knowledge that there's something in it.
and on the other hand: well, there could always be an important mail. perhaps yours?
